EPA WEB SITE HELPS FARMERS

On June 13, 2007, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a new Web site containing an easy look-up tool listing federal environmental regulations that could potentially apply to agriculture.

Knowing the regulations beforehand will allow farmers to address these issues before they become problems.

"It is essential to New York that people remain involved with, and future generations become interested in, agriculture," Rep. Kuhl said. "I hope that this website will be a tool for farmers to navigate through the often complex assortment environmental regulations that affect the agricultural community."

This information should not be used as the final word but rather as a fairly comprehensive starting place to try to determine which regulations farmers may have to comply with or be aware of in the future.

Please consult with State and/or EPA Regional Offices to determine which agency has responsibility for a specific program and to consult with that agency for more complete information before engaging in specific practices. Also note that many States have similar requirements to EPA's but may be more stringent or broader in scope.
